Freaking Out

26 Sep

..But in a good way.

Today, I received m’student pkt, and picked through my first class syllabus in 18 years.

…As an International Student and Guest Artist at The Actors Centre in London, (Omg. Seriously, this shit just got real), I’ve 43 hours of five workshops with award winning directors, actors, and writers from the BBC, RSC, National, Globe, LAMDA, London Film School, (and a whole hell of a lot more), picked out, for our two-week stay…which I’ve decided to call my, “If Its Pissing Rain Every Second We Are Here There’s Still Plenty Of Shit To Do” list. This center is a fucking phenomenal resource with a 72 page course option list, just within our three month attendance period…and those I’ve chosen to focus on, primarily work on character development and playwriting.

…Am particularly freaking out over the Glen Walford workshop, “Confidence Tricks,” as not only will that class be aired, but this woman’s sick International resumè is secretly topped for me by being the person who commissioned and directed “Shirley Valentine,” (my “Educating Rita”sister show) and being a frequent collaborator with Willy Russell

The schedule I’ve chosen would have me in London proper for both weeks, so traveling to see buds in Warrington and Scotland would mean a secondary cut to a “VIP Must List.” Which is damn hard to weed down from the opportunities just laying here in front of me. But four days’ intensive work with Walford and Jason Riddington are my essential “gotta hit thats, ” on top of (hopefully) making some new acting buds abroad, and bringing home about 47 new dialects to play with on stage sometime.

…It’s surreal, and kinda freaky, but completely what I’m supposed to be doing and I’m just about to trust that enough not to have an anxiety attack when I think that in 25 days, we’ll be in London… eating crumpets and ramen nearly exclusively, so we can throw all the money we haven’t got at theatre!

…And with that much appreciated student discount card in our pockets, yo!

Let’s do this thing.

Haunting Silence

7 Jul

image

Killer audience today, many family-friends in the house, with delightful eats after.

…And then: silence.

The silentist kind of silence.

…The kind that comes after a week of non-stop comings and goings, with BFFs and a house full of people eating, drinking, playing, and sleeping wherever they could find a perch, with shows in between to keep us honest, fourth of July Holidays, cast teas, birthdays and more.

I was fine for about two hours, then started wigging.

…Silence after that much action, and noise, after that many humans have crammed in all around you, is weird and unsettling.  Tried to read, but it didn’t take.  Movie helped a bit, a Cecily invasion, helped more.

…And now, far passed the time I was planning on, am finally in bed.  Instead of tossing and turning, the chat times will give me better sleeps for the fact that I’ve chased the ghosts away from the house, with laughter, and it doesn’t feel as empty and final as it did coming home to the FB mssg that The BFF and Fella had landed in New Orleans, and the ‘ventrue has begun…over there.

…Meantime, I do have my Earnest fam, and  tomorrow around noon, a meet-up for a sort of Q and A with our Director’s College class (who were in the audience today.) So: things to look forward to.  Other than the fact that it is Monday.

…And I haven’t gone to sleep yet.

Retro-activate date sequence now: and…”go!”

Running Behind

22 Dec

Just got home, for the first time since 10:15 this morning.

…I’m beat, but the happy kind…the kind that knows I still have three more days off work, and I’m aloud to sleep in for all of them.

Good through-line rehearsal, running the show for the first time, and bonding with the peeps, today.  Delicious little sound-bites, and curious eye twinkles, and naughty grins, and confidential truisms: that is the world we live in.  Terrifying though it can sometimes be. And yet, there is almost nothing greater on earth than kicking back over a drink with casties, chewing over the risks taken throughout the day, the things we appreciated seeing in the others, the choices that sent the run in this whole other level of strength and curiosity, the compliments and admiration of the other person’s work.

…It’s been a helluva year, being so blessed with this continued streak of great show-families to work with.

Our young ladies were absolutely dedicated to the classes and history work we did today, which helped immensely in their stage presence…the adults spent huge pockets of time line-running in off scenes, and further soaking the show into the artistic sponge cake of our brains.  The tech departments watching, got a strong and realistic look at the bones and beginning muscle tissue of the show before the final work and push, and suddenly…”angst” and “sex” and “separation” and “stakes” are registering at this whole other level.

Lots still to be found (obviously), but we’re in a good place.

…I may even say, we are in a GREAT one, as Mr. Director saw fit to give us tomorrow off.

So now, we have a “Holiday,” proper.

…And I have more time for all that running around, and last-minute-purchasing that I have to get done.

…And possibly a blog finished on time before the click over to midnight has passed.

…Which I clearly need to work on.

Apparently.

…But just know: it’s been for a good cause.

Happy dreams, loves.
